Berengrove Care Home
The Challenge
Berengrove Care Home required a sensitive yet extensive refurbishment of its detached Victorian property. The building’s age, layout, and deteriorating infrastructure created significant operational and compliance challenges. Outdated electrical systems, inadequate accessibility, and structural wear made the environment unsuitable for modern care standards. The client needed a complete internal and external renewal, all delivered with minimal disruption and a strong focus on safety within a care setting.
Our Solution
ECMS carried out a comprehensive refurbishment, beginning with a full internal strip-out to expose and address the building’s underlying condition. A complete electrical rewire was delivered to bring the property up to current regulations, supported by the installation of new ceilings and flooring throughout.
We installed a new fire alarm system and upgraded the building to meet DDA compliance, including accessible washrooms, widened doorways, and the installation of a disabled lift. Externally, we completed roof repairs, repointing, re-rendering, and landscaping to restore the building’s structure and appearance.
Our team coordinated every phase carefully to respect the needs of residents and staff, maintaining clear communication and strict safety controls throughout the project.
The Results
The refurbishment has transformed Berengrove Care Home into a safer, more functional, and fully compliant environment.
Key outcomes include:
- Fully modernised electrical infrastructure
- Improved accessibility through DDA-compliant adaptations
- Enhanced fire safety with a new alarm system
- Fresh ceilings and flooring that brighten and modernise the space
- Restored external structure offering improved protection and kerb appeal
- A more comfortable, navigable, and supportive environment for residents and carers
Health & Safety Considerations
Working within a care environment and an ageing structure required strict adherence to safety protocols. The project was F10 notifiable, and specific controls were implemented to manage:
- Ventilation in enclosed or dusty work areas
- Noise and vibration exposure affecting vulnerable residents
- Structural integrity risks during strip-out and renovation
Our team maintained continuous monitoring and documentation to ensure full compliance at all stages.
